I do indeed read BoingBoing, which I consider the non-technical version of Slashdot, with many of the same problems. Basically, what I find in Western media is that enlightenment is rarely coupled with morality. So, while BoingBoing is enlightened, it is often full of the immoral, often to the point of kufr. And those who oppose American jingoism are often the same people who are for abortion, gay marriage, etc.
